Religion & Philosophy

Gotta admit, the notion of religious Democrats is pretty bizarre, at least if you cull Jews from the group (I hear they tend to vote for the Dems).

Are there really enough pious Democrats in America to justify spinning a site from DailyKos?
I suspect that they fled DailyKos to avoid religious persecution, which makes them sorta like Pilgrims.

You're a bit late by gzt (2.00 / 0) #1 Sun Sep 23, 2007 at 06:22:13 PM EST
it's long since jumped the shark. I was one of the original writers. I didn't write much because I didn't like it, wouldn't describe myself as a Democrat, and was too busy. Plus, I didn't have anything to write about, my own expertise didn't have much news.

here's an interesting article by gzt (2.00 / 0) #2 Sun Sep 23, 2007 at 06:53:53 PM EST
It shouldn't be surprising by theboz (4.00 / 3) #3 Sun Sep 23, 2007 at 07:12:21 PM EST
You do realize that religious people have been involved with most liberal/socialist/progressive historical events prior to recent history. There are left-wing Christians who focus on charity and doing what Jesus said to do, and there are right-wing Christians who focus on authoritarianism and dominionism.

Really? Where? by Horatio Hellpop (2.00 / 0) #6 Mon Sep 24, 2007 at 01:40:20 AM EST
Around here, the infamous "unchurched corner of America", it's the party of Godless Communists.
In fact, if you casually mention that you're running late for church at Starbucks, you can actually see the hairs rise on their necks.

The difference is... by theboz (2.00 / 0) #7 Mon Sep 24, 2007 at 11:25:38 AM EST
It's the party of evangelicals like Jimmy Carter and the party of "godless commies", as opposed to the party for religious extremists and the ultra-selfish.

As far as religious folks being involved with religion, look at the anti-slavery movement from the early days of John Brown to the civil rights movement of Rev. Martin Luther King Jr.  The biblical Jesus said a lot of things that would have him labeled a "godless commie" if his purported followers actually read about him.

The Republican Party were liberals then by theboz (2.00 / 0) #10 Tue Sep 25, 2007 at 09:47:08 AM EST
Today's Republican party is not the party of Lincoln.  They're more like the Whigs combined with Nazi and Fascist parties.  The Democrats used to not be the liberal party and were opposed to desegregation.  The party name has nothing to do with the left/right designation, historically speaking.

Too bad you weren't in the Air Force in the 80's by georgeha (4.00 / 1) #8 Mon Sep 24, 2007 at 11:58:47 AM EST
you could have beaten a few Priests trying to splash blood on B-52s.

There were probably a few leftist Christian chicks protesting at the Seneca Army Depot, in addition to the usual wiccans, pagans and athiests.
